Infectious Disease Expert Dennis Maki Honored for Community Service

Madison, Wisconsin - Internationally known infectious disease specialist Dennis Maki, MD, will receive the prestigious Marshfield Clinic Heritage Foundation Award during a ceremony in Madison.

Maki, the Ovid O. Meyer Professor of Medicine at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), will receive the award at 5:30pm Thursday at the Fluno Center on the UW-Madison campus.

Maki is the 12th recipient of the award, established in 1997 to honor people who have made significant contributions to the community in the areas of medicine, government, civic leadership, education, law and business. He has served on Marshfield Clinic's National Advisory Council since 2004 and is a member of the Clinic's Independent Compensation Committee.

Past Heritage Foundation Award recipients include former School of Medicine and Public Health Dean Philip Farrell, MD, PhD, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird, former Governor Lee Sherman Dreyfus and former Governor and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson.
