Madison, Wisconsin — A University of Wisconsin cancer researcher has been appointed to a leadership role for a prestigious coalition of cancer centers.

Brad Kahl, MD, associate professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), is the new chair of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) lymphoma committee.

The Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group is a federally funded network of researchers, physicians and health care professionals that designs and carries out clinical trials for cancer research. The ECOG's goals are to improve survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients.

"This is a great honor," said Kahl, who is associate director of research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and head of the UW Lymphoma Program. "In this role, I will have the opportunity to shape the direction of lymphoma research on a national level. I look forward to bringing the very best doctors and scientists together to accelerate research and make a difference for our patients."

Currently, the ECOG has more than 90 active clinical trials in a variety of cancers.
