Strategic Priorities and Enablers
Our strategic plan reflects both who we are and what we can become when we work with shared purpose.
Grounded in our unique identity as a school of medicine and public health, this plan will expand the role we play to create healthy people and healthy communities in Wisconsin, the nation, and throughout the globe. Our plan is intentionally aligned with UW–Madison’s Strategic Framework to prepare students for the future, change lives for the better, and focus on the public good, always keeping close the Wisconsin Idea.
PRIORITY ONE
Innovation and Discovery Through Research
Leverage collaboration and strategic investments to transform innovation and discovery in ways that improve health for all.
- Promote interdisciplinary science and a thriving culture that advances knowledge and improves health for all.
- Focus investment on a set of priorities that advance both short-term translation and long-term transformational discovery and innovation, building on UW’s strengths.


PRIORITY TWO
Academic Excellence, Student and Trainee Experience
Prepare and equip students and trainees in every academic setting to build successful careers that creatively address challenges in health.
- Prepare students and trainees to engage in creative solutions to address the pressing challenges in health through interdisciplinary and interprofessional education and research.
- Enable students and trainees to work, research and learn alongside communities to make an impact on people across Wisconsin and beyond.
- Better equip all our students and trainees in the classroom, laboratory, clinic and community for professional success.

Patient Care Innovation
Partner with UW Health to grow the clinical investments, capacity and infrastructure needed to lead the transformation of health care.
- Optimize alignment with our UW Health partners to lead the transformation of health care that drives improved patient outcomes.
- Bolster and scale operational capabilities to foster the consistency and success of the scientific enterprise.

Invest in sustainable initiatives that deepen trust and partnership to improve the health of communities across Wisconsin and beyond.
- Serve people in Wisconsin and beyond by co-developing directed, sustainable innovative initiatives to improve the health of communities with a focus on areas of greatest need.

Partnerships and Collaborations
Unlock our full potential to impact society by restructuring our internal capacity to scale and accelerate partnerships.
- Expand sustainable partnerships with government, UW-Madison, UW affiliates, and industry and community partners to grow alliances, create new funding sources, accelerate multi-sector innovation and enhance our impact on society.
- Enable commercialization and entrepreneurship that moves discoveries into real-world applications with local and global benefit.
