Showcasing health careers for Native students
For the 20th anniversary of Indigenous Health and Wellness Day, organizers knew the keynote speaker had to be someone special. They wanted to draw as many middle and high school students as possible to UW–Madison on April 26 for this long-running recruitment event, and they were looking for a person students could relate to, with a compelling story to tell.

Training doctors for rural practice helps meet statewide need
Dr. Michelle Clark-Forsting always knew she wanted to be a doctor. Growing up in Alma Center, Wisconsin, she worked during the school year as a nursing assistant at nearby Black River Falls Memorial Hospital. Physicians there were her role models. In 2005, she applied to medical school at the University of Wisconsin.

New medical students’ passion for service evident at 2023 White Coat Ceremony
As incoming medical students described their motivation to pursue studies at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, a common theme arose: the desire to make an impact and give back to their communities. This passion was on full display as the newest Doctor of Medicine (MD) cohort began their journey into the medical profession at the White Coat Investiture Ceremony on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023.

Members of the UW School of Medicine and Public Health class of 2022 have demonstrated their commitment to a critical mission: improve health for all. This goal has inspired a range of accomplishments such as responding to the COVID-19 pandemic through rapid viral sequencing and bioinformatics analysis, creating ways to increase cultural competency in the field of physical therapy, and challenging ableism in medicine.
